A poster featuring some of the labour movement's greatest struggles and victories was commissioned and became a hit with YUSA members and the York University community.
A major postcard campaign soon followed, which remembers important dates in labour history, including, of course, that day in late 1975 when YUSA officially became certified. To look through the postcards, click below.
YUSA Looks at 35 Years of Solidarity with Post Card Campaign YUSA recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary. To remember the gains we have made over the past three and half decades, YUSA launched a poster and postcard campaign to say "thank you" to the hundreds of people who have worked so hard for our union and what it has accomplished.
YUSA Launches New Training Program for Members YUSA has developed a new training initiative for 2011. It was designed specifically for YusApuY members who supervise other YusApuY members. We will open this training first to members who have “supervision” included in their job descriptions and then we will offer it to the YusApuY community at large. It is one full day of training and the day will be broken in half. The first half of the day is called “How to supervise in a Unionized Environment” and the second half of the day is entitled “Occupational Health and Safety Supervisor Training.”
There comes along a person every generation or so that captures the hopes and dreams of millions of people everywhere, whose optimism, compassion and energy drive others to take action and help create a better world.

CCU Organizes Second Annual Barrie Labour Day
For the second year in a row, Barrie residents didn’t have to travel on a busy Highway 400 to Toronto in order to celebrate Labour Day.
The Second Annual Barrie Labour Day Picnic featuring music, food and fun for kids, took place on September 5th at Sunnidale Park.
The CCU held its biennial convention on October 22 to 25 in Toronto. The opening day Labour School included discussions on contract bargaining, accommodation in the workplace, discipline and attendance management, among others.
The CCU has recently initiated a highly successful communications and media strategy that has raised our profile and launched us into the online universe.
For starters, the CCU has created a Facebook group. Be sure to “Like” it to join up. It’s a great way to stay in touch with other members throughout the country, learn about upcoming events and debate important labour issues. Don’t be afraid to post photos of your union’s activities or cool labour links. That’s what it’s there for.
In addition, President Joanie Cameron Pritchett has created both a blog and twitter account so the CCU can better communicate with the outside world and the media about what’s going on in the union and the labour movement. But it’s also there for you, too. Again, if your union would like anything posted about upcoming events or issues, send it my way and we’ll put it up on the blog.
We have also created our own YouTube Channel, which will feature CCU events and activities and other videos on labour struggles and education from Canada and all over the world. By all means, send us videos of your union events and we’ll be happy to post them up.
OCCUPY NOW, OCCUPY EVERYWHERE The CCU participates in the Occupation Movement of Toronto and Halifax - and with millions around the world.
